Ken Wei (also known as Zixiao Wei) is a Melbourne based concert classical guitarist and teacher, he is also the visiting guitarist of Suzhou Symphony Orchestra, and editor of the magazine “Friends of Guitar” (Shanghai).

Ken began to learn the guitar with Professor Dongqi Huang in Suzhou, China and later went to the University of Melbourne to study with Professor Ken Murray and Mr. Tonié Field. For his Master degree, he completed his research topic with Professor Ken Murray and Professor Michael Christoforidis about Spanish composer Manuel de Falla.

Ken has given concerts in all the major cities in China, including: Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Nanjing, Suzhou, Kunming, Dalian, Qingdao, etc. His playing style is well recognised both in Australia and China and made him one of the most popular classical guitarists in China. His solo album “El Dia Que Me Quieras” was released in 2020. Ken is attracted to old masters’ performance style, such as Andres Segovia, John Williams and Julian Bream, their approach to music has a strong influence on him.

Along with the classic repertoires of the guitar, Ken is also an active interpreter of new music composed for the guitar. He has given the world premier of the award winning piece ‘Erode’, composed by Anne Hsuyin in 2022.

Ken also serves as jury in many competitions including: MGF guitar competition and Shanghai Donggong guitar competition, etc.
